WG on Public Lecture Courses

Chief Editor: Shigeki Mitaku (Tokyo Univ. on Agriculture and Technology)

Bioinformatics is a new field of research that will be the quintessence of future biological sciences. Its aim is to understand the fundamentals of biological phenomena by combining knowledge from biology, techniques from information processing, and reasoning from physical chemistry. Currently, investigators from different fields, e.g. biologists, computer scientists, physicists, and chemists, are entering into this area. In the long run, however, it is necessary to bring up young investigators that fully understand and propel this area, and to raise public awareness to achieve an understanding of and cooperation in the new research. With this in mind, the WG presents lecture courses for young teachers and pupils at junior-high and high schools.
